Room 15

Ag DAY PrEP Stalls

Term 3 Inquiry was an absolute highlight for Room 15.

Our mission: To create a product and marketing campaign to sell at our Ag Day Gala.

We had to think about: costings, customers, supply/demand and materials.

As a class, we exceeded our own expectations and felt extremely proud of our efforts.A BIG thank you to our supportive parents who helped make this learning journey so successful and memorable!

Tauri Time

Friday 27 October            It’s Tauri Time

Throughout the last term you have all been earning Tauri's, which is our class currency. Working hard on your PrEP inquiry has earned this income which you have kept in our 'wages' basket in a named envelope in the classroom.

On Friday 27th October  I will pay you all your final Tauri's which you will use to pay for or redeem, as part of our celebration Food Festival (pizza, hot chips and beverages).  Each item will cost a set amount, such as one slice of pizza = 2 Tauri's.

Today room 15 got an amazing lunch and it was all because of our wonderful teacher Miss Edhouse. We were all truly excited.

Gloria - I enjoyed the food and really appreciated what Miss Edhouse did for our class.

Jorja - I liked making/ designing tauris and helping set up food for Miss Edhouse, Miss Edhouse is awesome.

Anamaya -  My last term at Tauriko will be remembered for having such an awesome teacher.

Rivah - I really appreciate what Miss Edhouse brought for us it was very thoughtful we are glad to have an amazing teacher like you.

Nick - It is something different that I have never experienced in my life.

Wesley - It was incredibly kind of Ms Edhouse to give us the meal, and it was twice as good that Anamaya bought me a lemonade!

Zoe - It was really fun earning the Tauri’s and the day of buying our food was fun because we could spend them.

Jasmin - Miss Edhouse you truly are amazing, nice, totally awesome and most of all my favourite teacher.

Room 15 you are all delightful and I just love being part of your learning journey!

Term 3  Week 8

Kia ora team.   This week has been maori language week.  

On Monday

Our highlight were finishing our calendar art and learning maori greetings.

On Tuesday

We had the West cluster speech competition well done to our finalist Rylee van Dik and Lacy Graham     

On Wednesday  

The boys kapa haka had a workshop in the pac with Kuka and Justin.

On Thursday

We had a day full of Maori Our highlight was the hangi. We watched them dig the hangi it  was an amazing experience. The food looked amazing.  The kapa haka performance  was amazing to.

anticipation and surprise. It cleanses the earth,

it feeds the flowers and fills the holes. The

raindrop is never silent. It bangs on the

roof, splatters on the window or

splashes into puddles.

Journalists - Week 7

Week 6 highlights

Journalists: Ella Wilford and Jasmin De Buisson

Monday:

On Monday the 4th September one of our room 15 highlights were the choir performance in the evening which a lot of kids experienced. It was at Baycourt.

Tuesday:  

On Tuesday we wrote shape poems / stories based inspired by our new season spring!In Maths we also discovered how to do a graph and which one to do for our STAR test it was very tricky because we worked out that we had to convert our score into percentages. For those that picked it up quicker had helped out the people who were stuck,this is a great example of teamwork. We eventually figured out that the easiest way do it was by using percentages.

This is one of our tongue twisters for tongue twister Tuesdays that room 15 try to figure out. Do you want to try?  Well go ahead and try this one.

Wednesday:

On Wednesday a few more kids finished their shape poems or stories we are very proud of our work and we room 15 can't wait until we have finished them it was a great way to improve our drawing skills.

Thursday:

On Thursday we pretty much had a normal day but it was still fun.

No offence to the other teachers in the school but we have the  most fun in room 15 because Miss Edhouse is the best teacher EVER!

Miss Edhouse has just begun!

Miss Edhouse had great fun with the Year 1-3 during our Creative Community Curriculum afternoons exploring Fairytales. Our highlights were: making Stinky troll feet from Billy Goats Gruff, Pirate Hats from Peter Pan and having a snow fight in honour of Frozen!

Kids can ride!

We loved participating in ‘Kids can ride’.

We all had a great time on our bikes.

I liked pretending the back field was a give way. The first thing we had to do was look backwards for cars.

Then when you got to the second cone you had to use your left or right hand signals.

And then when you got to your last cone you got to look back for cars again.

Then we cycled to the give way sign and stopped to do our hand signals. Following this, we cycled around the whole back field. At the end there was  a little jump, it was so much fun.

Science Roadshow

Science Roadshow

On Thursday the year 5-8’s went to a Science roadshow at Bethlehem College. We tried out a whole bunch of science equipments. We learnt about microscopes, science experiments, physical change and chemical change. It was a lot of fun for all of us.

The Science roadshow is a portable show that travels around the country. It does science experiments and there are lots of stimulating activities that you can do.

Lucas’s favourite part was finding out how to use the bowling ball piston and trying to get the ball as high as he could. Ryan’s favourite part was when he had to test his own reactions.

Storylines Tour 2017

Dawn McMillan

It was finally here! After much anticipation, Dawn McMillan, a New Zealand author, was at Tauriko to talk to the Year 5 & 6 syndicate.

It was a great opportunity for us to experience seeing the work of Dawn. She has been an author for 20 years, having started writing at the age of 9. Dawn has written many books such as “Willy Woolly”, “Holly Socks”, “Mr Spears and His Hairy Ears” and “I Need a New Bum”. She read us two of her books and they were so amazing to hear.

This is one of the clever books that Dawn read to us. It was called, ‘The Harmonica’. It was so relaxing to listen to. She also had a little buddy Fergus who was her listening buddy when she was reading her books aloud. Our own Fergus was very excited to meet the other Fergus.

After answering a few questions, Dawn donated a book to our school and a book to Tom Dyer whose name was drawn. What an incredible experience!

Today (Wednesday 30th August) Katrina Friend,a photographer,came into room 15 and gave all the students a lesson in photographing as all the year 5 & 6 students are doing photographs for their art on Ag day.

First Katrina showed rm 15 some of her photo’s and talked to us about angle’s,how our eyes move over the picture that we’re looking at and how the light changed the image,she also taught us about the background and how to adjust it to the thing that you are taking the photo to.

Then we all went outside in groups and took a few photos ourselves,experimenting with the camera on our IPads.I worked with Casey Beach and Kylah Reid,my and Casey’s personal favourite was where I and Casey lay on our tummies between some goalposts and linked our pinkies.We then experimented and made the photo black,white and grey,it was truly beautiful.

So,I think that room 15 have been truly lucky to have this fortunate experience!!!

The one and only Des Hunt visited Room 15 to conduct a Writer's Workshop last Tuesday 16th May.

We thoroughly enjoyed our session and felt entertained by many of Hunt's amazing experiments!

Hunt discussed with us the importance of re-structuring sentences for greater impact.
